Dear All,

The next HPC training will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 10:00 am in
307 Frey and broadcast through Adobe Connect for remote users.

Wednesday, Feb 20, 2013: Regular Expressions
Regular Expression (regex) is a specific pattern that provides concise
and flexible means to "match" (specify and recognize) strings of text,
such as particular characters, words, or patterns of characters. Regex
is used by many text editors, utilities and programming languages to
search and manipulate text based on patterns.

Next HPC Training
Wednesday, Feb 27, 2013: Advanced Shell Scripting
Continuing on from the Intro to Linux training, this tutorial will
introduce basic shell scripting (writing simple scripts) and then move
on to advanced topics such as flow control, command line arguments, awk
and sed. Participants are excepted to be familiar with working on a
Linux/Unix system with particular emphasis on creating and editing files
with editors such as vi and emacs. Please note that you will not receive
any help with using vi, emacs or any other file editors in this training.

All of these tutorials are not intended solely for HPC users. Anyone who
wants to get more out of their *nix systems to carry out simple tasks
such as writing job submission scripts, analyzing/manipulating data,
writing scripts for carrying out system administration tasks etc. is
encouraged to attend the Regex and Scripting Tutorial.

For the benefit of participants who do not have access to a *nix system,
we have created a virtualbox image of Cent OS. Instructions for
downloading and installing the image are provided at
http://www.hpc.lsu.edu/training/archive/downloads.php. If you need help
with installing the image feel free to email me back. You can also drop
by the training room around 9:30AM on the day of the training.

Please feel free to distribute to members of your department or
institution who may benefit from these tutorials.

Please visit http://www.hpc.lsu.edu/training//tutorials.php for more
details and register using the link provided.
Users who plan on joining remotely will be provided with an Adobe
Connect Link in their registration confirmation email. Please see the
system requirements at

Thanks,
Alex
