Dear all,

We will have our weekly TESC seminar this Thursday (7/2) at 11:30am in 108B Digital Media Center.

Dennis Castleberry, a graduate student in the CSC program, will present. The title of his talk is
"An Intelligent Tutoring System for a Scientific Method of Teaching".

Abstract: This project combines a computer aided tester (CAT) using Item
Response Theory (IRT) with an intelligent tutoring system (ITS) and an
executable paper system. The system contains the following five components:
(a) a testing item and content item database, (b) a testing item autograder
(CAT component), (c) a content and test item scheduler (ITS component), (d)
a subsystem supporting automated educational psychology experiments, and
(e) interfaces to (a-d), including an executable paper system for (d). Novel in
this research is (1) the test item scheduler, which uses IRT to provide adaptive
measures, (2) the content item scheduler, which uses response sets to schedule
content for study, and (3) the subsystem supporting automated experimenta-
tion, including its executable paper interface.
