Hi all,

We will continue our weekly seminar this Thursday (10/16) at 12:00pm-1:00pm in 1034 Digital Media Center.

Dr. Vidhyadhiraja Sudhindra, a visiting scholar, will present his research titled "Proximity effects of interactions and disorder in layered electronic systems."

Abstract:
Experimental advances in the last decade have led to the fabrication of atomically engineered interfaces
of interacting systems. The experimental and theoretical studies of such interfaces have led to quite a few
surprises, such as the discovery of a two-dimensional electron gas at the interface of a band insulator and
a Mott insulator. Another aspect of these interfaces that is receiving a good deal of attention is proximity effects,
which is basically the effect of one type of material on another due to them being in close contact. In this talk,
The talk will be focused on layered electronic systems, and theoretical investigations of proximity effects when
dissimilar materials, such as disordered or clean Kondo insulators and metals,  are interfaced.
