Good morning! We will have our weekly seminar at 11:00am-12:00pm on Thursday (2/13) in the Digital Media Center Theatre.


This week we will have graduate student Lokendra Thakur from the department of Mathematics to present. The title is "Controlling Beam-Wave Interaction in TWTs Using Metamaterials".

Abstract: In this talk I discuss the use of a new metamaterial paradigm applied by the LSU MURI team to design high power microwave amplifiers. This is a component of the MURI effort between LSU investigators from the Math Department and Center for Computation and Technology, The University of New Mexico, Ohio State University, UC Irvine and the MIT Plasma Physics Center. Using mathematical analysis we are able to develop a new metamaterial paradigm for design of plasma beam-electromagnetic wave interaction structures for high power amplifiers operating in the S and K bands. This delivers a new efficient numerical method for systematic design of gain from beam-wave interaction structures.
