Dear colleagues,
This is a special and FREE opportunity for graduate students and postdocs
who may be considering an academic career.
As part of LA-SiGMA's Workforce Development program, two faculty from
LSU-Shreveport will offer a online workshop to Postdocs and Senior Graduate Students
from end of May to end of June on best teaching practices. This is open to all students
and postdocs at LSU.
Participants will leave the workshop with a statement of teaching philosophy (required
in most faculty searches) and a teaching demonstration appropriate for job interviews.
Also, in addition to a research talk, a teaching demonstration is becoming standard in
job interviews. Participants last year found the workshop very useful.
This Teaching workshop will introduce participants to the latest in research-based
teaching methods for science classes. Participants will experience all aspects of a
learner-centered classroom. They will explore education research literature and learn
to use research-based methods to actively engage students in both large and small classrooms.
The course will be conducted online, and there will be meetings held via video conferencing
beginning late May. The workshop will require participants to spend about 8-10 hours on material
per week, including the 2 hour video conferences.
To register, please send an email to Leigh Townsend, the LA-SiGMA Outreach Coordinator at
LSU <lgalat1 at tigers.lsu.edu> with: First name – Last name – email address – area of research –
Faculty advisor.
Questions/requests for clarifications should be directed to me.
Best regards,
Juana
