Dear LA-SiGMA Investigators,

The Second Annual Online Workshop in Best Teaching Practices will be held
from May 20-June 28th.

Here is a short summary of the workshop:

"Online Scientific Teaching @ LA-SiGMA is an online summer course for
post-docs and upper level graduate students covering the latest in
research-based teaching methods in science, technology, engineering, and
mathematics. In the six weeks of the course, participants will explore the
education research literature and learn to use research-based methods to
actively engage students in STEM classrooms. Participants will learn to use
technology as a tool for teaching, and will leave the course with a short
web-based teaching demo.In addition, the final week of the course will
focus on developing the statement of teaching philosophy required in many
job applications. "

Most of the work will be through online discussion boards and assignments,
which Drs. Sisson and Aamodt will monitor and respond to. This will require
about 8-10 hours of work each week, including Friday videoconferences with
Drs. Sisson and Aamodt.

This course was developed specifically for LA-SiGMA, and postdocs and
senior level graduate students are required to participate in this workshop.

Several LA-SiGMA participants attended the course last year, so if your
students successfully completed the work, they will not be required to
attend again.

Please send me the names of senior graduate students in your group so that
I can email everyone to get the registration started.

Best regards,
