[LA-SiGMA] Spring 2016: New course on Designing and Building Applications for Extreme Scale Systems

In collaboration with the Blue Waters project and the University of Illinois, LSU is offering an online graduate course on Designing and Building Applications for Extreme Scale Systems. If you are an interested LSU graduate student, please, register for PHYS7412. Postdocs can attend without registering but we ask you to notify us.
The course includes online video lectures by William Gropp (Computer Science at Urbana-Champaign), and quizzes and homework assignments with access to accounts on the NSF supported Blue Waters supercomputer. Juana Moreno is the local instructor and will meet with the students weekly to discuss the material covered, questions on homework, and the final group project. The time of the weekly meeting will be agreed on after the term starts.
In this course you will learn how to design and implement applications for extreme scale systems, including analyzing and understanding the performance of applications, the primary causes of poor performance and scalability, and how both the choice of algorithm and programming system impact achievable performance. The course covers multi-and many-core processors, interconnects in HPC systems, and parallel I/O. Material from last year's course is available at:
