Dear All,
As a reminder, Dr. Bumsoo Han of Purdue University will be giving a talk
today at 3:30pm, 1008B, Digital Media Center, Louisiana State University.
The title of his talk is "Engineering of Biomaterials using Hierarchical
Poroelasticity."
Abstract:
Recent developments in biotechnology have enabled numerous new and
innovative biomaterials where interactions between the cells and their
surroundings are critical to their function. Although biological and
chemical interactions have been focal points of research in this area,
significance of their mechanical interactions just begins to be recognized.
In this talk, I will present my group's research to understand and
manipulate the mechanical interaction among cells, interstitial fluid and
extracellular matrix during tissue engineering and preservation.
Quantitative experimental and theoretical methods to measure and predict
these interactions and their impact on the functionality of biomaterials
will also be described. As one of new applications, engineering of tumor
microenvironment on chip will also presented.
Biography:
Bumsoo Han is an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering and
Biomedical Engineering at Purdue University. Prior to joining Purdue, he
has been an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at Arlington. He
received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of
Minnesota, and his M.S. and B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Seoul
National University in Korea. After his Ph.D., he was a Post-doctoral
Research Associate in Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering at the
University of Minnesota. His broad research interests are in biotransport
phenomena. His current research focuses on the quantitative understanding
and engineering of biotransport phenomena for tissue engineering and cancer
therapy. He received US DOD Postdoctoral Award, NSF CAREER Award, and
Richard Skalak Best Paper Award from ASME Journal of Biomechanical
Engineering.
Please note, this seminar will ONLY be accessible through HD
videoconferencing. Adobe connect will NOT be offered.
