[LA-SiGMA] HPC Training: Introduction to Linux (revised schedule)

Dear All,
Due to a conflict, the previously scheduled HPC training on Jan 29, 2014
will now be held on Monday, Feb. 3 at 10:00 AM in 307 Frey and broadcast
through Adobe Connect for remote users. Participants who have already
registered for this training will be emailed separately.
Monday, Feb. 3, 2014: Introduction to Linux
Schedule:
Training Lecture: 10AM - 12:30PM
Hands-On and Consultation: 1:30PM - 4PM
The aim of this training is to get users familiar with using Linux
systems e.g. the HPC resources. This training will cover basic linux
commands, editors (emacs and vi) on Linux systems and writing and
executing simple bash scripts. Anyone who is interested in learning
about using a Linux/Unix based computer is encouraged to attend. If you
are not familiar with using a Linux system particularly editing files
then this course is a prerequisite for the forthcoming training on User
Environment and Shell Scripting.
*This training is mandatory for HPC users who are not familiar with
using a Linux/Unix system.*
*Prerequisite*: /Access to a Linux/Unix based computer i.e. Linux
(VirtualBox images provided at HPC website), Mac OSX and Windows with
Cygwin and Bash installed./
Next HPC Training:
Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014: HPC User Environment, Job Management with
PBS/Loadleveler
Schedule:
Training Lecture: 10AM - 12:30PM
Hands-On and Consultation: 1:30PM - 4PM
*This training provides an overview of the software environment, queuing
system and running/monitoring jobs on HPC systems. This training is
mandatory for new users.*
*Prerequisite*: /LONI or LSU HPC account (No Training Accounts will be
provided) and Familiarity with Linux/Unix OS./
