[LA-SiGMA] HPC Training: Document Creation with LaTeX

Dear All,

The next HPC training will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 9:00 AM in 
307 Frey and broadcast through Adobe Connect for remote users.

Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013: Document Creation with LaTeX
Schedule:
Training Lecture: 9AM - Noon
Hands-On and Consultation: 1PM - 4PM
LaTeX is a document markup language and document preparation system for 
the TeX typesetting program. LaTeX is widely used in academia for 
writing reports, thesis, journal papers, presentations and posters. This 
tutorial is an introduction to creating documents using LaTeX.
*Prerequisites*: /Users need to install TeXLive from 
http://www.tug.org/texlive, MikTeX (Windows, http://miktex.org/) or 
MacTeX-2013(MacOSX, http://www.tug.org/mactex/) on their laptops. 
Alternatively, please download and install the virtual image from 
http://www.hpc.lsu.edu/training/archive/downloads.php. If you prefer not 
to install LaTeX, writeLaTeX (https://www.writelatex.com/) is a free 
service that lets you create, edit & share your scientific ideas easily 
online. *LONI and LSU HPC clusters do not have LaTeX installed and 
training accounts will not be provided*./

Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013: CUDA Programming
Schedule:
Training Lecture: 9AM - Noon
Hands-On and Consultation: 1PM - 4PM
This tutorial is a basic inroduction to programming GPUs using Nvidia's 
programming environment. Basics of the GPU architecture and CUDA C 
programming language will be covered. Some simple examples demonstrating 
basic techniques for getting greater performance out of GPUs will also 
be discussed. No prior experience with GPU is required. Experience with 
C or Fortran will be useful.
/Exercises will be done on LSU HPC cluster SuperMike II. *Training 
accounts on SuperMike II will be provided to in person participants 
only*. LONI users who are not eligible for LSU HPC resources will need 
to have access to a computer with Nvidia graphics card and CUDA compiler./

*Note: We reserve the right to cancel a training session if there are 
less than 5 registered participants, please register if you plan on 
attending the training sessions. Registration closes at 8AM on the day 
of the training.*
