[LA-SiGMA] HPC Training: Introduction to GNU Octave

Dear All,

The next HPC training will be held on Wednesday, April 10 at 10 AM in 
307 Frey and broadcast through Adobe Connect for remote participants.

Wednesday, April 10, 2013: Introduction to GNU Octave
GNU Octave is a high-level interpreted language, primarily intended for 
numerical computations. It provides a convenient command-line interface 
(CLI) for solving linear and nonlinear problems numerically, and for 
performing other numerical experiments using a language that is mostly 
compatible with MATLAB. It may also be used as a batch-oriented 
language. As part of the GNU Project, it is a free software under the 
terms of the GNU General  Public License (GPL). HPC at LSU has a limited 
(10) seats for using MatLab on HPC clusters and using GNU Octave which 
supports most, but not all functionality of MatLab, is a good option to 
circumvent the licensing issue with MatLab. Users interested in 
migrating MatLab code to a compatible software are encouraged to attend.

The last HPC training for the Spring Semester will be held on April 17

Wednesday, April 17, 2013: Introduction to GNUPlot
GNUPlot is a portable command-line driven graphing utility for 
generating 2D and 3D plots. This course is an introduction to to the 
GNUPlot plotting utility covering the basics of using GNUPlot.

Please feel free to distribute to members of your department or 
institution who may benefit from these training.
