Title: "Multigrain computational approach to morphing nanostructures"

Abstract: 

Self and directed assembly of multi-component materials (e.g.
bio-functionalized nano particulates) involves multi-scale relaxations that
lead to multi-scale dynamics and morphing structures. In computational
modeling of such hierarchical assembly, it is not feasible to incorporate
all details from atomic scale. Some degree of coarse-graining is therefore
almost impossible to avoid. How to incorporate relevant details depends on
specific issues. Using multi-grained mechanism (involving all-atom MD
simulations, knowledge based contact matrix, and phenomenological
interactions) we have examined organizing structures of a number of model
systems. For example, structure and dynamics of polymers, proteins, tethered
membranes, assembly of nano-clay composites, scaffold in anti-microbial
peptides (KSL), and peptides binding to such substrates as gold, palladium,
clay, and graphene sheets. Some of our recent findings will be presented in
this talk.
