[LA-SiGMA] Fwd: Please let us know if you have an established Indo-US collaboration

To all:  
Let me share with you what I learned at the INDO-US meeting in Manila.
1. We should try to take an existing interaction and build upon it to create
new and lasting interactions.
2. I would guess that our program would be stronger if the two (or more)
institutions in the US were not both in LA.  Surely when it comes to writing
a proposal to the NSF we would be better off with a geographic distribution.
3. I was part of a discussion at the meeting about setting up a new team
between the two countries. The two US institution would be ANL (Mitchell,
Freeland) and the University of Arkansas (Jak Tchakhalian), while the major
participant  in India would be D. D. Sharma (Indian Institute of Science).
The program would be aimed at combining theory and experiment for
understanding core level absorption spectra (XAS and MCD) from thin films of
correlated electron materials.  Evidently, what they want is to be able to
do what Sawatzky and his team can do for the bulk (see attached paper).
4. My personal bias is that there needs to be a supporting experimental
program.
