[LA-SiGMA-LSU] REU/RET/REHSS Reviewing and Mentoring at LSU

Dear All,

Please let us know if you can or cannot be 
a) a reviewer of the REU/RET/REHSS applications and/or 
b) a mentor for a high school student, an undergrad, and/or teacher - let us know which ones and how many you can mentor.

Please send me this information by next Friday February 20.

a) As in previous years, we will need reviewers who can look at the students’ and teachers' applications starting around March 3 with a short turnaround time of around March 9. Based on previous years, I expect each person to review about 12 applications found in dropbox. Each application consist of a 500-word essay, online application, transcripts, and two letters or recommendation. Each reviewer will give the student both a ranking with numbers and a ranking of "must hire", "should hire", "could hire", and "do not hire”.

At LSU,
b) REU program runs for 10 weeks, from Monday May 25 - Friday July 31. Fifteen mentors are needed.
REHSS (High School Students) program runs for 6 weeks, from Monday May 25 - Friday July 3. Four mentors are needed.
RET program runs for 6 weeks within the span of the REU program, the work schedule is decided between the teacher and the mentor. Seven mentors are needed.

Mentors may be absent for a week or so, provided another faculty or senior research staff continues to follow the student's or teacher's progress during this absence.
