Hi all,

We will have the weekly TESC seminar this Thursday (4/16) at 12:00pm-1:00pm in 1008B Digital Media Center.

Roozbeh Karimi, a graduate student from the Division of Computer Science and Engineering, will present. The title of his talk is "Balancing instruction and data cache usage in Sparse Matrix Vector Multiplication on Intel Many Intergated Core architecture".

Abstract:
Efficient unilization of memory hierarchy is a key optimization on many platforms including the Intel Many Integrated Core architecture (MIC). Sparse Matrix Vector Multiplication (SPMV) is a common kernel in many scientific applications involving sparse matrices. One application in which we are interested, is the Krylov subspace approximation with the Arnoldi iteration which is used for Quantum Monte-Carlo simulations. The most time consuming kernel in the Arnoldi iteration is the SPMV. Common sparse matrix formats such as CSR tend to have irregular memory accesses which are inefficient in their use of the cache hierarchy. We introduce the Stridden Diagonal Format (SDF) to address this issue by exploiting the inherent structure of the sparse matrix to reduce to pressure on data cache by increasing the instruction cache utilization. And compare the performance of SDF to the common CSR format for SPMV.

PIZZA AND DRINK WILL BE PROVIDED.
Presentation time: 12:00PM~1:00PM CST
Location: 1008B Digital Media Center

The meeting will be shared through adobe connect at http://connect.lsu.edu/gpu/

Best,
Wei
