Our weekly seminar this week will be held on Thursday (7/24) at 12:00pm-1:00pm in the Digital Media Center Theatre.

Troy Loeffler, a graduate student from the department of Chemistry, is going to present. The title is "Molecular Monte Carlo codes and the parallelization problem".

Abstract:
Traditional molecular Monte Carlo codes provide a useful tool to researchers because of its ability to take advantage of "unphysical" moves in order to sample events that would normally occur too infrequently to be sampled using many popular simulation techniques.  However, because of the nature of monte carlo codes the codes are not as easily converted into a massively parallel code in the same way that codes such as molecular dynamics codes are. The purpose of this talk is to discuss parallelization strategies and their application to our current project.
