We are going to have our weekly seminar on Thursday (12/4) at 12:00pm-1:00pm in 1034 Digital Media Center Theatre.


Dr. Gerald Baumgartner, from the Division of Computer Science, will give a presentation titled "The Tensor Contraction Engine (TCE): A Domain-Specific Approach to Synthesizing High-Performance Codes for Quantum Chemistry".

Abstract:
The performance of large scientific computations is influenced by the choice of program optimizations, among other things.  The accurate modeling of the electronic structure of atoms and molecules in quantum chemistry involves computationally intensive tensor contractions over large multi-dimensional arrays.  We are developing a program synthesis system, the Tensor Contraction Engine, that translates a high-level specification of such computations into efficient, parallel code tailored to the characteristics of the target architecture.  This talk
provides an overview of TCE and discusses several components of the synthesis system, focusing on performance optimization issues.
