[LA-SiGMA-funded] Co-sponsored seminar by Steve Plimpton - Nov. 4 Sid Fuchs ME Seminar Series and LaSiGMA Seminar

Dear Colleagues,

 

I finally have a finalized travel plan from Steve Plimpton for his visit and
seminar at LSU. I am writing to you directly because you had expressed your
interest specifically when I had put out a call a few months ago. I am also
copying all of our LaSiGMA colleagues to make sure that they are aware and
have the opportunity to participate.

 

His visit will start with a late arrival on Nov. 3. He will spend the whole
day Nov. 4 at LSU and depart Nov. 5 early in the morning. His seminar will
take place 3:30pm-4:30pm, Nov. 4 in the Frank H. Walk Design Presentation
Room (ELAB 140, directions will be sent to all).

 

Steve has a very busy schedule so he will be here one day only (I was
angling for two, but did not work out), so an effort will be made to make
his short visit as meaningful as possible for as many as possible.

 

I believe it is fair to give priority of participation to the co-sponsoring
entities (Mech. E. and LaSiGMA), so I will not broadcast the event to the
wider public until next Tuesday. I will send out a flier with Steve's
abstract to ME and LaSiGMA personnel later today.

 

My thoughts on the schedule and arrangements are given below the signature
line of this message. Please provide your feedback so that we can converge
sooner rather than later.

1.       Multi-scale simulations and tool development group
(coarse-graining, continuum-MD/DPD, etc.); Venue: Venue: 338 Johnston Hall
(CCT); Time Slot: 8:30am - 9:15am

2.       GPU group; Venue: 338 Johnston Hall (CCT); Time Slot:
9:30am-10:15am

3.       General LAMMPS interested group; Venue: Venue: 338 Johnston Hall
(CCT); Time Slot: 11:00am-11:45am

4.       Lunch with up to 6 interested Faculty (TBD); Venue: Faculty Club;
Time Slot: 12:00noon- 1:15pm

5.       Meetings with individual interested faculty (TBD); Venue: PFTH;
Time Slot: 1:30pm - 3:00pm

6.       Seminar; Venue: Frank H. Walk Design Presentation Room (ELAB 140);

Organization

Those who wish to drive in from other towns (e.g. Ruston, New Orleans)
should be provided with hotel accommodation free of charge.

 

The Walk Room will be used for the seminar because of its holding capacity
(~120+ ) and presentation infrastructure. I call on Bhupender Thakur to work
with our technical staff to make arrangements over next week and ensure that
the seminar is broadcast live to our LaSiGMA partners, who should also "beam
in".

 

338 Johnston Hall will be used for the group meetings because it is very
well equipped for highly interactive smaller meetings involving individuals
at remote sites. I call on Bhupender Thakur to work with CCT technical staff
to make arrangements over next week and ensure that the remote connections
are properly set up and working.
