Hello,
Dr. Randy Hall recently sent out an email about the Professional Development
opportunity for graduate students being held at LSU. I have pasted his
email below.
I just wanted to add that I am able to reserve single rooms in the
on-campus apartments (East Campus Apartments) at a rate of $45 per night.
If you and/or your students would like to stay at ECA for the week, please
contact me so that I can reserve a room for you. As a reminder, the home
institution is responsible for paying for his or her housing and travel.
The deadline to sign up for the workshop is May 30.
Feel free to contact me with any questions,
Thanks,
Leigh
Dear colleagues,
One of our LA-SiGMA outreach components provides professional development
opportunities for our graduate students (Strategy 5 under Workforce
Development, Page 17 of the proposal). To help accomplish this goal, LSU is
hosting a National Computational Science Institute workshop from July
31-August 6, 2011. The workshop, titled: "Introduction to Computational
Thinking," is open to all LA-SiGMA graduate students. Registration is now
open and I request that you encourage your graduate students to sign up as
soon as possible because after May 30 registration will open to other
students and schools.
LSU will cover the cost of meals and housing for four instructors, as well
as the breakfast and lunch for all workshop participants. Home institutions
are responsible for graduate students' housing, travel, and dinner costs.
These costs can be covered from each institution's LA-SiGMA travel budget
(for details, please contact your campus PI or their designate).
In order to register, please visit the following site:
http://www.computationalscience.org/workshops2011
The LSU workshop is near the bottom of the page, you must create an account
to register.
The campus PI or designates are
LSU: Bety Rodriguez-Milla
UNO: Scott Whittenburg
Tulane: Lawrence Pratt
Xavier: Cheryl Stevens
Southern: Diola Bagayoko
La Tech: Ramu Ramachandran
Please contact Leigh Townsend with any questions,
Best regards,
Randy
