Dear colleagues, following up on my message last month, that generated some questions,
LA-SiGMA has a milestone of 5 internships/extended national lab/industrial visits by LA-SiGMA supported graduate students or postdocs. Eligible personnel would presumably be drawn from the shared students and postdocs that are supported by the grant and would allow the travelers to gain additional/complementary experience in either theory, computation, or experiment that is related to the goals of LA-SiGMA. To start, I assume we will use our personal contacts to place personnel. LA-SiGMA would pay the stipend and travel and request local expenses (such as housing) to be covered by the host institution.
If one of your shared students/postdocs would benefit from such a visit with one of your personal contacts, please let us know. Leigh will then followup with your contact to work on details to place your student/postdoc. If you have believe one of your shared students/postdocs would benefit from a specific group at a national lab or industrial lab, please let Leigh know and she will work with the EEWD committee to try to identify contacts that may help realize a visit. If you have already provided this information, you do not need to send it again.
Thanks
Randy
