I am interested in participating in the workshop. I am an experimentalist
and my research focuses on solid-state thin-film micro- and nano-batteries.
Currently , the materials of interest are mixed cathode based on LiCoO2 and
Li2RuO3 and we use lithium phosphate oxynitride (electrolyte) glass, which
is a true solid electrolyte. Therefore, there will be no polymer or liquid
in these batteries. We are very well equipped to make these materials by
chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and also by magnetron sputtering. We just
acquired a double magnetron gun sputtering system a few weeks ago from
Denton Vacuum.

 

We also can present some research work that we have done on Ru/RuO2
nanoplates and nanorods, which can be used in electrochemical capacitors or
supercapacitors for energy storage.

Dear LA-SiGMA Collegues,
A followup and clarification of previous email messages...

 

We have been asked (see the note below) to help identify LA-SiGMA members
and other colleagues to attend and participate in the first Louisiana
Industry -Academia Collaborative Workshop.  This workshop will focus on
Materials and Energy (note that this is close to the theme of the expected
upcoming national initiative on computational science coming out of the
White House).  Please let us know if you would like to participate in the
workshop, perhaps present a poster, and help us to identify other colleagues
who might attend and participate.

If you are willing to participate or present, please send us a sentence
describing your expertise or the title and content of your poster.  If you
would like to suggest a colleague, please send us his/her contact
information together with a sentence describing their expertise in energy
materials.

Please send this information to us no later than COB (5:00) tomorrow evening
since we will convey the list to the LA EPSCoR committee shortly thereafter.

Note:  Excerpt from call for participation from LA EPSCoR/BOR

 

We believe that it is very important to engage the LaSigma research team
with industry from the inception of the new NSF EPSCoR RII project.
Therefore, we are pleased to invite the LaSigma research team to the first
Louisiana Industry -Academia Collaborative Workshop.  Louisiana EPSCoR and
Board of Regents plan to host a series of these workshops with this first
one focused on Materials and Energy. The purpose of the workshop is to
foster interactions between  some of Louisiana's leading researchers and
representatives of Louisiana's industrial R&D community. We also hope to
identify and begin to address policies and mechanisms that may impede
fruitful synergisms between academia and industry.  
 
The Materials and Energy workshop is scheduled for October 15, 2010, from
noon to 5:30 PM with a reception following in the Marriott in Baton Rouge,
LA. Faculty should take this opportunity to showcase their research by
Poster Presentation immediately follows from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.  

This workshop will feature:

*	Speakers from industry representatives who will provide insights
into their research needs and challenges;
*	University intellectual property officers who will describe research
innovations that could be particularly relevant to Louisiana's business and
industry; and 
*	University researchers will have posters that describe some of their
research programs and related innovations.
